Talk programme to mark the eve of the 55th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Russia hold at the Russian Center of Science & Culture

The Russian Center of Science & Culture (RCSC) hosted a talk programme on “Russian foreign policy in the context of Nepal-Russia relations”  to mark the upcoming 55th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries jointly organized by the Russian Embassy in Kathmandu and the Nepal Council of World Affaires and Institute of World Affaires.

Among key participants in the programme there were Mr. Tika Jung Thapa, President of Nepal Council of World Affairs, former ambassadors of Nepal to Russia Mr. Hiranya Lal Shrestha, Mr. Lila Prasad Sharma, Mr. Yadav Kanta Silwal, Soviet and Russian graduates, leaders of Nepal-Russia partner organizations and representatives of central mass-media.

Hon.Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Information and Communication Mr.Krishna Bahadur Mahara was invited as the Chief Guest at the programme and made a brief address to the audience followed by a keynote speech by H.E.Dr.Sergey V. Velichkin, Russian Ambassador to Nepal.

Nepalese colleagues from scientific, diplomatic and political circles highlighted  firm and traditionally friendly character of relations enjoyed by the two countries that are based on equal partnership, absence of contradictions and aiming to promote multidimensional cooperation both on the international arena and bilateral agenda.

The audience showed a vivid interest to the Russian Ambassador’s in-depth analysis of the guiding principles and principle goals of Russia’s multivector foreign policy, theory and practice of its active multilateral network diplomacy facilitating the evolvement of a new more just world order based on strict observance of international law and equitable cooperation in resolving global and regional problems.

A particular attention was paid to Russia’s engagement in the UN and other key international bodies with special emphasis on results of the recent BRICS Leaders Meeting in Sanya, China and Russia’s position on developments in North Africa.

Against this background, the Russian Ambassador reiterated that the convergence of national interests and commonality of approaches towards major contemporary problems provide a firm foundation for the interaction of Russia and Nepal on a wide range of topical issues of international politics.

Representatives of central mass-media including the ABC channel showed a keen interest in the event and enjoyed the opportunity to briefly interview the Russian Ambassador.
