The Ambassador of Russia H.E. Mr. Andrey L. Trofimov inaugurated the photo exhibition in commemoration of 1000th anniversary of Kazan city

On November 29, 2005 the Ambassador of Russia to Nepal H.E. Mr. Andrey Leonidovich Trofimov inaugurated the photo exhibition in commemoration of 1000th anniversary of Kazan city located in the European part of Russia, 800 km east of Moscow. The Nepalese officials, businessmen and journalists, as well as the representatives of the diplomatic corps were invited for the function that took place at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Kathmandu.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Russian Ambassador said that the 1000th anniversary of Kazan was an event of the globe score and this had been underlined by the President Vladimir Putin in his address on the occasion. Situated at the crossing of trade and cultural routes of the West and East, the Christian and Muslim worlds, Kazan developed into a centre of two cultures, Orthodoxy and Islam, became a rare example of peace and stability and harmonious combination of the various cultural strata.

The other speakers at the function were General Director of the Department of Archeology of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. K.P. Acharya, President of Nepal-Russia Friendship Association Mr. B.R. Tuladhar, Director of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture Mr. S.F. Kiselev, Trade Representative of Kazan Helicopters Company in Nepal Mr. A.M. Tikhonov, and Assistant to the Ambassador of Russia Mr. S.Y. Nedelko.

The exhibition consists of 50 photographs which show various historical places including the Kazan Kremlin enrolled into the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as mosques and churches, museums and theatres and the life of Kazan's citizens. The exhibition will be open till December 6.
